Colourpop Lux Lipsticks

Colourpop continues to bowl me over with their new releases and although I CANNOT stand custom charges I find myself being suckered in by all their wonderful new products.

This time I was caught by the release of their new Lux Lipsticks – $7.00 each, the first traditional bullet lipsticks from Colourpop.

Each lipstick has a creamy – matte (I know) finish and in an array of 24 shades, there is truly something for everyone.

I watched ALORRA swatch videos before these were released and to be completely honest I wasn’t really sold, nothing seemed to jump out at me, I love a good warm nude but all I could see were a bunch of colours made for fairer skin. Now I know (hope) this wasn’t CP’s intention but most of the wearable shades were a bit too light for my taste and probably for the tastes of other PoC. I’m hoping CP will extend the shade range over time.

Based on moving swatches of YouTubers I decided to pick up the following shades and bundle:

When they arrived (with a painful customs charge) I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I had been fretting about the shades I picked up but they were more wearable than I imagined but before we go any further let’s take a minute to appreciate the work that went into each lipstick.

The Lux Lipsticks are probably some of the prettiest lipsticks I have ever seen, each lipstick comes in gorgeous blogger-mad rose gold hard casing with stars, because how can you not love stars, and then to top it off the lipsticks themselves are embossed with stars! LOVE!

Once you get over how much work was put into the packaging you make it to the lipstick.

Now, as I said before Colourpop call these lippies creamy-mattes which sounds like an oxymoron in itself but it’s kinda true. The lipsticks glide on fantastically with a more than satisfying amount of pigment. Once settled on the lips, it doesn’t dry down but it’s not slippery if that makes sense, it just glides on like a creamy, pigmented lipstick – it’s hard to describe.

These lipsticks are comfortable and they do not feel greasy at all.

Wear time for this is what you would expect for a cream lipstick, it’s decent but with eating and drinking you’re gonna lose some of that colour but it’s so easy to reapply it’s not an issue.

Funnily enough, my favourite out of the lipsticks is Lay Over, paired with a brown liner and dabbed lightly across the lips, this gives you a gorgeous everyday nude lipstick – you can see me wearing this HERE.

Foolish has also helped to curve my fear of orange lipsticks as it’s deep enough to not look stark on brown skin – you can see my swatch of it HERE.

All in all, I have to admit, I wasn’t expecting much with the given shade range but I was pleasantly surprised like I always am with Colourpop. Their ability to produce high-quality but low priced products continues to astound me. I just wish there was a way to get over the UK custom charges.

You can pick up the Lux Lipsticks from Colourpop now.

I can totally see myself wearing “Lay Over” and “Friends” for those 90s vibes. I’m a sucker for rose-gold packaging. Customs is a beyotch but when you finally have what you ordered safe in your hands its worth it! lol – x
