Firstly, for how long it’s taken me to get this post up and secondly for this post HERE where I basically spent a good few minutes letting you know how terrible this powder is.
Shortly after typing up that post I realised that I had bought the wrong powder. Yes, I know, but we all make mistakes!
What I did not
The Laura Mercier Glow Translucent Loose Setting Powder – Medium Deep (what a mouthful) retails for £29.00 with the same amount of product that you get with the original powders, and in fact, on first sight, it’s hard to tell what’s new. It’s only on closer inspection you when you read the word “glow” after skipping over it 10 times previously and glance at the reflective lid, that you realise this is a different product.
I want to start by saying I really feel like LM missed a trick trying to produce something so similar to the original powder to the point where it seems almost lazy and like they are trying to ride on the coattails of the success of the original powders.
I guess I’m also a little annoyed as I know I’m not the only one who has been left confused trying to differentiate between the 4 translucent loose powder products with 2 different finishes and if you think my gripe ends there, you’re wrong!
This powder is also named almost exactly like it’s predecessor so you would think you could use it the same way, but you definitely cannot.
In short, this is not a setting powder but a loose highlighter and I have no idea why LM didn’t want to market it that way. There’s nothing wrong with a good loose highlighter!
If you’re not a makeup fanatic like me and you went to buy this powder and use it, as described, as a setting powder, you’d be pretty pissed off that you spent all 29 of your pounds to turn your face into a shine ball that could out-slay the moon.
I mean, I don’t get it!
Even on the LM site, they seem in two minds about how to use this. On the same page, they state that the powder can be used to “reduce the look of unwanted shine and texture” as well as to “reflect light on the high points of the face for a natural glow.” You can’t have both!!

Poor marketing aside, once you decide how to use this. (FYI – the only way to use this is as a highlighter) everything makes a little bit more sense.
When I say everything, I do not mean the price, as £29 for a highlighter isn’t really worth it if you’re not a makeup enthusiast.
Ok, I’m ready to talk about the actual product now.
Medium Deep Glow or MDG for the sake of this post, is a gorgeous rich chocolate powder on first glances and once again it looks near identical to the original Medium Deep powder until you look closer and see little reflective shimmers.
The real show happens when you apply this product!

I could not stand how patchy and chalky TG was. It seemed to create random patches of glow whenever I used it so I was extremely happy to discover MDG was not the same.

Despite my rant above, I can’t lie – it’s super pretty and a little
I’ve actually found myself reaching for MDG as a highlighter instead of my normal go-to’s as I love the shade of highlight on my skin tone and I have to admit I like the “magic” of it all but do I think you need to get this?
No.
I mean, it’s pretty and fun but it’s not a must have for £29.
Even if you love highlighters, you’re gonna get tired of MDG as you have so much product, it’s just not going to hold your attention for long.
I really do feel some kind of way about MDG.
As a product, it’s fun, but it’s not a game changer. I dunno, I feel like LM could have made it better with a little bit more thought behind it.
So, yeah! Ha! That’s my second take on this powder.
