Let’s talk bronzers! It’s been over a year and I remain obsessed with bronzers and contour products! I  recently decided to renew my makeup collection (you can check out my haul video HERE) and I had to purchase these black owned products so let’s jump right in and talk about them!

Juvia’s Place Bronzed Duo Bronzer – Dark | £14.00

We can now buy Juvia’s Place in an actual shop over here in the UK which is exciting as we are rarely able to buy US owned brands in stores over here, so when I heard about this alongside the bronzers, I was SOLD!

Out of the 5 shades, I picked up Dark which isn’t even the deepest shade, so we STAN! You also get 2 shades for the price of one with these bronzers. Dark comes with what I can only describe as a warm reddish brown shade and a deeper rich brick red shade. Both shades are highly pigmented due to their matte finish and work well on my skin tone especially if I want to feel extra bronzed, they can also be used independently. I also think you could use the lighter shade of the two as a blush which makes this lil palette even more impressive!

LYS Beauty No Limits Matte Bronzer – Strength | £16.00

As you can see from the picture above, I couldn’t wait to get into this product (sorry, not sorry) LYS Beauty is a female black owned US based beauty brand which is now available and exclusively sold on Cult Beauty. Being that LYS is black owned, the shade range, much like Juvia’s Place, is on point for black skin.

I picked up the shade Strength which was the second to last shade and also shade number 2 instead of the higher numbers.

From my swatch you will see that this bronzer is not as warm as the Juvia’s bronzers but this isn’t a bad thing at all, the slightly cooler toned nature of this bronzer means this is perfect for everyday wear, melting into the skin for more of a natural bronze. The powder itself is pigmented, smooth and esay to apply, just make sure you use the right brush to apply – not too big and not too small, to ensure you get a bronzed and diffused look.

Danessa Myricks Beauty Balm Contour – Deep 2 | £26.00

Ok so bear with me here, this is not a bronzer BUT I wanted to show this anyway and bring some awareness to the differences between contours and bronzers.

Let me first start of by saying: you can use bronzers to contour your face, but it’s not ideal to use contour products to bronze.

As you can see from the swatches, the Danessa Myricks Beauty Balm is mainly cooled toned, meaning there are no obvious red/warm tones present (at least until you blend it out a little) because this product is used to create depth and shadows to give a sculpted illusion.

In terms of the DM Beauty Balm, you would need to apply this to areas of your face which you would want to contour and blend out to create a sculpted look.

Danessa Myricks, being one of the Queen of her fields, created the Beauty Balm with ease in mind. You get maximum colour payoff alongside effortless blending either with clean fingers, brush or sponges. Whilst swatching this I noticed how easily my finger glided along the product and how smoothly it applied to my arm. I also found the staying power of this to be somewhat incredible. Even with an oil based makeup remover, I could still see the swatch faintly, so if you are looking to use this make sure you do not let it sit too long as it seems like it sets.

I am so so so happy that we have so many more black owned beauty brands being made available in the UK as we struggle with this, which means we struggle finding products that run deep enough for our skin tones. Having the availability of more US based black owned brands in the UK means a void in the UK beauty market is slowly but surely being filled with products that actually work on AND compliment our skin tones!

I can’t wait to see how many more black owned US brands become accessible to us over here in the UK!

What are your favourite bronzes/contour products?
